My family has had businesses on Puckle Street for approximately ninety years.

My late mother May and late brother Peter Purves established Paulene Maree in the early 1950’s. I had commenced working as a junior in a local estate agency, where I stayed for five years, after which I joined Peter at Paulene Maree, and have worked in the business ever since. Over the last 65 years, the business has thrived despite some challenging times. We are now serving the third and fourth generations of many families, and not only local ones. I have found this one of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of my work.

Paulene Maree has also been fortunate to have a very loyal and long-serving staff. Along with other Puckle Street traders, I have been actively involved in the Moonee Ponds Chamber of Commerce for many years, with the constant support of the Essendon and later City of Moonee Valley Council. The Chamber has successfully represented the interest of small businesses. One of the most significant achievements was the collaboration with the Essendon Council in the introduction of the Special Rate Levy, which I believe was one of the first in Victoria. I have always lived in Moonee Ponds and love the area because it’s a great place to live, with an abundance of facilities, and the people are really nice.
